TUVOK CHIEF OF SECURITY
******
Tuvok Early Years
Tuvok had a normal Vulcan childhood, his parents; Sunak his father and T’Meni his mother are both in Starfleet. And as a boy it was assumed that he would follow down their path. Although Tuvok
was not always sure that Starfleet nor the Vulcan logic was the right thing for him and he rebelled against its teaching. His strong emotional feelings for a young woman were nearly his undoing. His father sent him to a Vulcan master who taught him the mental discipline that was needed to overcome his emotions. At the end of his training he was told by the master that love would never threaten his logic again.
Tuvok felt obliged to apply to Starfleet Academy in the
tradition of his father and mother, he was not happy about this. He was
accepted, and began his training in 2288. A hard working diligent student.
Tuvok
graduated with honours four years later at at the age of 29. This is a young
age for a Vulcan who’s life span is over 200 years. However his years in the
Academy and his years as an ensign, were not entirely satisfactory for him.
Humans always disturbed him he could not handle the egocentric nature of
humanity.
He found that illogically; humans believe that everyone in the Galaxy should share their particular views on life, their sense of humour and their values. At the time these were not the values to which the young Vulcan called Tuvok aspired to. But his sense of honour and duty, mainly to himself at this stage of his life, he would have to endure these discomforts, and do the best he could for this was his chosen career path.
Tuvok is posted to the USS Exelsior NCC-2000, the captain of this ship is none other than the Legendry Captain Hikaru Sulu. His posting is as a junior science officer on a mission to chart gaseous anomalies. Meanwhile his parents are both happily serving on the U.S.S. Yorktown NCC- 1717. Tuvok's world is not a stable one he becomes dissatisfied with his inability to adjust to Starfleet standards.
Suddenly Tuvok's problems come to a head when the U.S.S.
Excelsior is in the sector of space where the Klingon moon, Praxis explodes.
Captain Sulu attempts to investigate. The Klingons warn off the ship. And at
this point Sulu learns that his former commander, and hero to the Federation,
Captain James T Kirk and medical officer Doctor Leonard McCoy, have been accused of
murdering the Klingon Chancellor. Out of his intense devotion and loyalty to
Kirk and McCoy, Captain Sulu takes the Excelsior on a rescue mission unknown to
the Federation. Tuvok openly disputes the attempt and makes a formal protest. This is when he learns that what happens on the bridge of a
Starship; is more
than just carrying out orders and obeying regulations; it has to do with a
sense of loyalty to one's crewmates.
However even after this example from Sulu, Tuvok is deeply disturbed by Sulu's illogical reasoning. He never forgets the incident, which only confirms all he has thought about humans and reinforces the decision he has already made. Unhappy Tuvok continues to serve on the Excelsior for five years, and then resigns from the service in 2289. He returns to Vulcan and seeks to purge all traces of emotion and achieve a state of pure logic by undertaking the rigorous Kolinahr discipline. Once again to find the peace that comes from pure logic.
Six years have passed since beginning the Kolinahr ritual, Tuvok
abruptly abandons it after he undergoes Pon- farr and he takes a wife T'Pel.
They
have four children three boys and one girl. Finally raising his children gives
Tuvok a new perspective, and the experience teaches him many things about life. He begins to understand that
the decisions he made in his youth were not in his best interests, and begins
to understand what his own parents experienced in raising him. Tuvok is
especially drawn to his youngest son, Lute, and often reads favourite stories to
him. With his family Tuvok finds harmony in his life.
Tuvok Chief of Security
For forty four years Tuvok lives on Vulcan where he continues his own pursuit of knowledge. During this period, Tuvok is especially content as he studies many different disciplines, becoming extremely proficient in a wide area of knowledge.
2349, after an absence of fifty years Tuvok decides to
return to Starfleet. he had found it difficult in his youth to fit in maybe now
that he is older, 79. Starfleet accepts him. It means leaving his wife and
children for long periods of time. But he has become restless and need of new
challenges. Tuvok knows that there is much he can learn from other species, and
that Starfleet provides that opportunity. He is assignment on his return to
Starfleet to the U.S.S. Wyoming. Where he settles in to the routines of
command. The next assignment was teaching at Starfleet Academy. He does this
for 16 years and gains a reputation as stern taskmaster but very fair. He
demands strict adherence to rules and protocols from his students.
Tuvok joins The USS Voyager under the command of captain Janeway, he will be her security officer, and because of his calm approach this is a job well suited to him. Lt. Commander Tuvok now Chief of Security aboard the U.S.S. Voyager during Voyager's precarious journey through the unexplored territory of the Delta Quadrant, the ship often encounters hostile species, it is part of Tuvok's role to determine which races are potential allies and which are enemies to protect Voyager .
Tuvok assures the safety of the ship and its crew by
adhering to and enforcing Starfleet security protocols, even though the nearest
Starfleet base is thousands of light years away. He oversees a security force
aboard Voyager and maintains a number of security stations, including a post on
the bridge. From the bridge, he can undertake long range scans for unknown or
enemy vessels, and hail any such ships Voyager encounters. Additionally, if
Voyager is attacked, Tuvok's station has the capability of firing weapons in
return.
Tuvok is a logical, and precise, Janeway often consults him for advice on security issues. Whenever Janeway has doubts about security preparations, it is usually Tuvok who escorts visitors throughout the ship. Even non-threatening visitors do not escape Tuvok's watchful eyes. He is trained in the martial arts of many Alpha Quadrant cultures, and knows at least 94 different ways to kill a person using only a hand.
Before Voyager becomes lost in the Delta Quadrant, Captain
Janeway assigns Tuvok to infiltrate Chakotay's Maquis crew, and accumulate
information about their activities. When the Maquis join Voyager, Tuvok
secretly writes a holodeck program the purpose is to train junior security
officers in the event of a Maquis mutiny, but it later becomes a popular
recreational program. He is not only Voyagers chief of security but a
representative of Starfleet security in the Delta Quadrant.
When Voyager travels back into Earth's past, Tuvok finds himself involved in maintaining a different kind of security that of the timeline. He must ensure that Voyager’s presence causes no lasting changes.
While he does not depend on feelings or instincts in order to do his job, he closely follows his own ethical code, which, coupled with his strict daily regime of meditation and mental exercise, makes him both a wise counsellor for the captain and an esteemed and loyal defender of Voyage’s well being.
Now at the age of 104 he is just now beginning to live the
life his parents tried to guide him too.
NEELIX BEFORE VOYAGER
Neelix the Talaxian; is now the chef and morale officer on board, U.S.S
Voyager NCC- 74656. He likes nothing better than to entertain the crew members
with his embellished tall tales of past exploits. He is the one person on the ship
guaranteed to lift their spirits in times of deep crisis. However, his stories
rarely reveal the fact that he has overcome a series of tragedies and hardships
that would leave most others in his position feeling bitter and defeated.
Neelix has survived a war on his home world, and he has for many years been a space scavenger in the Delta Quadrant. Learning the ways of survival using ones instinct and wits. A skilled negotiator enabling him too hone his bargaining power; for his survival in a harsh environment. As the Voyager crew came to know him, they have realised that he is more troubled and complex than his friendly demeanour suggests, and that his past experiences play a vital role in who this Talaxian is today.
Neelix spent most of his early years on the Talaxian moon Rinax. It was an idyllic place, known for its perfect climate warm days and nights, the colony was considered to have the most temperate climate in the Talaxian system. Neelix lived here with his family, which included his parents, brothers, and sisters. Someone he felt particularly close to, was his favorite sister Alixia, and when he thinks of his sister he remembers all the adventures they had
Unfortunately; Alixia and the rest of Neelix's family were
killed by the metreon cascade, a weapon of mass destruction launched against
the Talaxians by their bitter enemies, the Haakonian Order. The Talaxians had
been engaged in war for over a decade with the Haakonians, when the weapon was
used it caused the death of more than 300,000 Talaxian people.
Neelix was alone now, all his family and everyone he had ever known were gone.
He survived because he was away on Talax when the bomb was detonated.
Neelix strongly believed that war with the Haakonians was unjust, and the Talaxians were fighting them for the wrong reasons, but the metreon cascade changed his mind. The fallout enveloped Rinax in a deadly cloud, turning its lovely days into an endless night similar to the effects of a nuclear war. Neelix returned to Rinax with a rescue team to search for survivors, but found virtually nothing left except for smouldering ruins. Rescuers came across survivors, including a burned and disfigured young girl named Palaxia. She was taken back to Talax for treatment. Neelix stayed by her side for weeks, watching her slowly die. She had reminded him of his beloved Alixia.
The destruction of his Home world and the loss of his family had a profound
effect on Neelix. All that kept him going through difficult times was his faith,
that some day he would be reunited with his family in the Great Forest, the
Talaxian after life. Neelix left his home system after their home world's surrender,
to live a nomadic life
travelling the Delta Quadrant. Compared to the idyllic days spent with his family and home. Now alone he was not particularly
happy with his life, before joining the Voyager. Neelix
