Dr. BEVERLY CRUSHER'S EARLY LIFE

Beverly Crusher was born in 2324, her parents Paul and Isabel are both deceased. Beverly is raised by her grandmother Felisa Howard. Felisa was a healer at the Caldos Colony and taught her granddaughter the medicinal power of herbs. Later they would work side by side to help the people of Arvada III, using little more than roots and herbs and the skills they both had.

The experience helped Beverly make up her mind that healing was the life she should follow. Felisa stayed on at Caldos but Beverly wanted to move on and explore the galaxy. In 2342 she joined Starfleet Academy and during the course of her studies she met Jack Crusher. Jack proposed marriage in an unusual way, by giving Beverly the book, "How to Advance Your Career Through Marriage". Beverly accepted the proposal and they were married in 2348.

Their son Wesley was born a year later. Jack’s closest friend was Jean-Luc Picard who spent a lot of time with the couple, Jean-Luc admitted to Beverly 20 years later he had fallen in love with her during those early years of their marriage, and he was deeply affected and felt guilty about falling in love with his best friend’s wife. Commander Jack Crusher was serving aboard the USS Stargazer Under Captain Picard when he was killed on an away mission in 2354 .

Widowed with a 5 year old son Beverly continued her Starfleet career taking her young son on her assignments. Six years later she is assigned to the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. It took Beverly and Wesley many years to move beyond the death of Jack. However she did become annoyed when captain Picard said he protested her assignment. Thinking that she may have blamed him for the death of Jack, but  assures him she holds no feelings of blame toward him. Accompanying her on this assignment is Wesley now a bright teenager much like his father he is a trusting, honest,  hardworking young man.

Beverly is a proud mother she is proud of her sons quick mind, soon she is delighted when Picard notices his many skills and appoints him as acting ensign. Her protective instinct toward her son could place her in direct conflict with her duties, when Wesley accidentally breaks a law on Rubicus III and he is sentenced to death, with their zero tolerance of any minor crime, Beverly is ready to break the "prime directive" to save his life. Wesley has other incidents that bring  conflict to her duties as a Starfleet officer, soon she learns that Wesley is no ordinary young man and has knowledge  beyond his years and she is able to let go, and in 2365 she takes up a posting as head of Starfleet Medical. After one year she returns to The Enterprise, she replacing  Dr. Kathrine Pulaski, she finds her 17 year old son has grown into a serious hard working student and valued member of the crew.

For all her professionalism she is no ordinary mother as her son matures she watches from the side lines with a touch of sadness as he becomes his own man. For Beverly her greatest test as a mother comes when Wesley who now has extraordinary intelligence, and the help of an alien know only as the Traveller lead him into a new plane of existence, and he literally evolves into a new form of humanity, Wesley joins the Traveller exploring the galaxy. As he leaves Captain Picard is there to wish him well  and as his tearful mother says her last good bye.  Picard is very aware of the pain Beverly must be feeling and he puts his arm around her for a few moments.

WESLEY CRUSHER BOY GENIUS

Wesley Crusher is the son of Dr. Beverly Crusher and Jack Crusher who died when he was only 5 years old. Since then his mother raised Wesley alone and made sure the loss of his father makes no lasting effect on his development.

Wesley spends four years of his young life on board the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D when his mother is assigned to the Starship. His life on board is the same as children everywhere, he studies, plays sport, has friends, falls in love for the first time, and makes plans for his future in Starfleet. On board the Enterprise there are   many families and he makes many friends. Wesley finds living on board the ship great! he has a wide range of resources it offers for his education, the Enterprise has extensive libraries and data banks, all the crew have a wide range of interests and skills, and most of them share this with the very popular Wesley Crusher.

Wesley goes on field trips down to the planets they visit, he is allowed to do his studies sitting along side the engineers in the engine room, where he gets first hand knowledge and watches experiments on the warp core, and in the science labs where he does his own projects, one such project was very advanced nano- technology. These nanites he discovers are self replicating and sentient creatures that in 2366 are given colonisation rights on the planet Kavis Alpha IV.

Captain Picard influenced a little by the "Traveller" and his own observations of  this brilliant young man. He makes  Wesley an acting Ensign. He insists however that this means his schedule will be heavy on study. He was only 15 years old.

A year later his mother is leaving the Enterprise to take on the post Head of Starfleet Medical. He approaches Guinan in 10 forward and ask her advice on wether or not he should leave the Enterprise, he feels this is the place he needs to be, after a lot of soul searching he asks Captain Picard to allow him to remain on board the Enterprise. At first he doubted if his mother would be in favour of him staying. Picard enlists the help of other members of the crew to make sure Wesley continues to study. And have the proper guidance a young Starfleet candidate will need.

From a very young age Wesley learns there is a down side to living on a Starship. There is little chance for routine, duty assignments change, friends leave, and not even life itself  can be taken for granted. The death of his father takes him many years to come to grips with. When the Enterprise goes into a combat situation every effort is made to protect the children and civilians on board. Exploration has its risks, as Wesley found out first hand he was sentenced to death for falling into a flower bed, a punishment zone on the planet Rubicun III. Captain Picard has to break the prime directive to get Wesley out of trouble.

Despite all the risks and uncertainties Wesley is well equipped to handle the challenges ahead of him to choose his own path, his childhood and teen years on Board the Enterprise, mould him into a very mature responsible young adult. With all this Starfleet background training Wesley is keen to join Starfleet Academy, but to his dismay he fails the entry exam,  Picard talks to him and makes Wesley feel better about the failure when he admits he to failed the first time. On the second attempt Wesley passes the entry exam for the Academy. Now he realises that he has to find his own unique path through his journey of life.
