DATA: HIS EARLY DAYS.

Data was discovered on the planet Omicron Theta. By the crew of the USS Tripoli, he was in a dormant state. His creator was Dr. Noonien Soong. He became operational in 2338. he has a mother Dr. Juliana Tainer, a brother named Lore, and Data created a daughter named Lal, who unfortunately died within two weeks. Data is assigned to the USS Enterprise NCC 1701D, as Commander Data In 2364.

Dr. Soong. Data’s creator, was Earths foremost robotics and cybernetic scientist, he attempts to realise Asmov’s dream of creating a positronic brain, after many failures he decided to leave Earth, and continue his work at the very remote Omicron Theta star system. He succeeded in creating Lore a double of himself and has emotions. Unfortunately Lore has an imbalance that causes him to have manipulative and sadistic behaviour. He is perceived as a threat by the colonists and Soong dismantles it. With all this knowledge in hand Soong sets about creating Data, a perfect twin to Lore on the outside only. Data has no emotion chip at the beginning of his creation.

In 2338 when he was reactivated Data’s only recollection was of some tests being performed on him, also he had the combined knowledge of the 411 colonists he was not sure why this was given to him, however he recalls it was done in a hurry. He worked out that it must have been due to the "Crystalline Entity, which killed all the inhabitants of Omicron Theta. Data’s final remembrance of the people of the colony was of great danger, something vast, not understood, then nothing the colonists were all gone.

The USS Tripoli send a landing party to find out what happened to the colony, during this investigation there was a signal device beside Data’s body and this same device activates him as the rescue party approach. Data’s first memory was seeing the crew of the Tripoli, this was the moment he was reborn. The crew who find him impress Data so much he decides that he will join Starfleet. His entry into Starfleet Academy was unique he is the only android ever to enlist. There was one vote against him that of Bruce Maddox of the Daystrom Institute. Data has no problem passing entrance exams, but in his freshman year he discovers that his biggest problem is interaction with humans. Despite these problems Data graduates in 2345 with honours in exobioligy and probability mechanics.

He spends three years as an ensign and eleven years in the lieutenant grades, one of his assignments was on board the USS Trieste, in 2348 he receives his first promotion to lieutenant junior grade. Due to his programming and super strength, by definition he is an exemplary officer, but has not made any advances in the area of command. Data’s spends many years in the operations division only.

2364 Data is assigned to the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D under captain Jean -Luc Picard, as Operations Manager. His duties include coordinating many departments on board. Data rarely is given command even though he is stronger, more intelligent and doesn’t require sleep. Picard will help Data become one of Starfleets finest officers, they are great friends, Data has a cat called Spot, and Geordie is his best friend.

DATA: STARFLEET CAREER.

The android Data is a unique life form, for although other types of sentient androids have been encountered by the Federation, these are usually the creations of advanced alien technology. Unlike these machines, Data is constructed by a human being, the learned and unconventional scientist Dr. Noonien Soong. Soon after his initial activation, Data embarks on a life that will see him constantly attempting to understand and emulate humans. As a sentient being, Data possesses the physical attributes of a human being, in form and function. He is fully capable of an intellectual understanding of human thought processes and emotional states, but he is, for the first three decades of his existence, unable to comprehend the true meaning of humanity and the concept of emotion.

The crew who find him are helpful, and Data is so impressed by their actions that they inspire him to join Starfleet. His decision has far-reaching consequences, both for Starfleet and, potentially, for other androids. His entry into Starfleet Academy is the first, and so far only, one by an android. At Starfleet Academy entrance committee: they decree that Data is a sentient life form. This permits his entry to the Academy and his eventual service as a member of Starfleet. The only vote against Data's entry is cast by Bruce Maddox of the Daystrom Institute. Data and Maddox cross paths again during one of the most important events in Data's career has a lasting influence on Starfleet: a redefinition of the rules concerning artificial life which is forced by Data's attempts to resign from Starfleet rather than undergo experiments which could cause him permanent damage.

As an android in Starfleet, Data occasionally suffers from the prejudice of other officers. But his abilities usually prove, even to the most diehard sceptic, that he is reliable and trustworthy. Data finds the organization's entrance exams elementary, but in his freshman year at the Academy he discovers his biggest problem to be that of social interaction. In particular, practical jokes and the traditional Dance baffle him. Despite these problems, Data graduates in 2345 with honours in exobiology and probability mechanics. His curriculum also includes advanced training in auxiliary vessels. Following graduation, he spends three years as an ensign and 11 more in the lieutenant grades. In 2364, Data is assigned to the Galaxy-class U.S.S. Enterprise , as Operations Manager. His duties include coordinating many departments on the starship.

Data is rarely placed in command even of small away team missions, even though on the occasions when he does take charge he acquits himself admirably. Despite his long and almost flawless career record, Data is not placed in command of a starship until assuming the con of the Nebula-class U.S.S. Sutherland during the blockade of Romulan aid to the Duras Klingon faction in 2367-68. Many officers feel uncomfortable being ordered around by an android, but Data soon manages to prove his worth. Data has a routine unlike any other officer in Starfleet: because he doesn't require sleep, he can work around the clock. He often takes over the night shifts aboard the Enterprise bridge after his normal shift.

After eight years aboard the Galaxy-class Enterprise, Data and most of the crew transfer to the U.S.S. Enterprise It is aboard this new ship in 2373 that Data is nearly assimilated by the Borg, who are attempting temporal sabotage with Earth's past and humanity's First Contact with an alien race. Data resists temptation and saves Picard and his ship. Data currently carries Alpha-1 computer clearance and Priority 3 security clearance. He has a close companionship aboard the Enterprise with Spot, a domestic cat who lives in his quarters aboard ship. Like most cats. Spot is particular about the food she eats, and Data, with infinite patience, creates at least 74 different varieties for her to sample.

The most profound relationship Data experiences on board the Enterprise is also one of the briefest. Data duplicates his own neural network in a new android body, which he, names Lal, Hindi for 'beloved'. At first, Lal's 'body is featureless; but as; parf of its development: the new entity selects a human female form, becoming, in a sense, Data's daughter. The creation: of Lal comes to the attention of Admiral, Haftel! As a Cyberneticist; he wants to study her . Tragically, the stress of the fight over Lal's rights as an individual leads her to develop emotions, including love for her 'father', and regret about her own impending demise, which in turn causes a fatal failure of her neural matrix. Lal ceases to function after little more than two weeks of life, leaving her father - Data - to continue with his quest to understand life, alone.

Data's closest acquaintance during his time aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise is Geordi La Forge. Their long-term friendship begins in 2364, when both come aboard the ship: Data as chief of operations, and La Forge as flight controller. The last of the known 'Soong- type' androids is Juliana 0'Donnell Soong Tamer. Created by Dr. Soong to house his wife's mind when she died, Juliana is unaware that she is an android herself and considers Data and Lore to be her 'children'. Soong left Earth in order to continue his work in seclusion and secrecy. His self-imposed exile brought him to the scientific colony at the remote Omicron Theta star system. There he succeeded in his quest, building Lore, an advanced android which closely resembled its creator and which was capable of feeling emotions. However, because of his erratic behaviour. Lore was perceived as a threat by the colonists, and-Soong dismantled his creation. With the knowledge he had gained, Soong went on to construct Data. Externally identical to Lore, Data lacked the capacity to feel emotions, at least initially.

Data's earliest recollections are vague impressions of some of his functions being tested in Dr. Soong's work area. Data also possesses the combined knowledge of 411 colonists, though not their complete memories. He is not certain why this knowledge was given to him, though he recalls it was done hurriedly. It is likely to have been connected with an attempt to have something survive the onset of the Crystalline Entity, which was responsible for the deaths of the Omicron Theta colonists about the time of Data's construction. Data's final remembrance of the colony was of great danger. Something sudden and not understood; then a blank, as if the colonists were gone." His first clear memory is of opening his eyes and looking into the eyes of the Tripoli landing party. In human terms, Data had been born and had become fully knowledgeable at the same instant, though at the time, he had no idea that this was unusual.

It might seem impossible that Lt. Commander Data could ever go wrong. But there is one area in which he has more or less failed, his desire to be more human. Although he must be applauded for his efforts in trying to overcome his technological programming, he ultimately falls short Data often attempts to join in the games and sports enjoyed by his crew- mates , but his programming is not always suited. When he joins in the senior officers' weekly poker game he is baffled 'by the concept of bluffing, and finds the game difficult to understand, he does master this concept. The arts are another area for which Data's programming seems inadequate. He has tried acting, painting, and writing poetry, all with little success. Data's poetry is technically perfect, but is dry, tedious, and Data can't grasp the joy of learning something, like dancing, because it takes him no real time or effort to perfect it.

Romantic love is even less successful than his creative endeavours. When he agrees to act as father of the bride to Keiko Ishikawa at her impending marriage to Chief Miles O'Brien, he nearly ruins the wedding when he mistakes Keiko's last minute jitters for a genuine desire to cancel the ceremony, and informs the chief that she no longer wants to go ahead with it. On another occasion, Data finds himself the object of the attentions of Lt. Jenna D'Sora, who claims to have fallen in love with him. He has no emotions, but he is capable of fulfilling the physical side of the relationship, and so writes a program for romantic relationships with a subroutine devoted to Jenna. He devotes a considerable share of his internal resources to these programs, but Jenna realizes that he cannot and does not care for her and ends the relationship, Data simply deletes the program. Many of Data's mistakes are caused by a lack of experience rather than a fundamental flaw in his programming. As he continues to grow and observe humans, his failures are likely to become less frequent. In the meantime, his ongoing struggle seems far more human than an immediate success at mastering human behaviour ever could.

GEORDIE: HIS EARLY LIFE

Geordi La Forge was born in 2335, his mother Silva and father Edward were both Starfleet officers, and a sister called Ariana. he was born blind because of a birth defect and received the Visor when a young boy. Growing up in Starfleet meant Geordi lived in many different place each time having to adjust to his environment while he mastered the visual aid, sometimes his parents would have different assignments that meant he never knew where he would end up. It never bothered him this nomadic childhood, he found it one great adventure.

In 2370 Geordi hears that the ship USS Hera his mother is serving on is missing with all hands feared lost. He takes the news hard and refuses at first to believe she is really dead. He is very angry at himself for missing an opportunity to meet his mother 3 weeks earlier. In a twist of fate he gets a chance to say goodbye to his mother due to an alien encounter.

Like his parents before him he Geordi started his Starfleet career in 2353 he piloted ships on the Jovian run this is a starfleet shuttle run between Saturn and Jupiter, he actually met captain Picard on one of these shuttle trips, Picard remarks on how he thought there was a slight problem with the shuttles engine, unknown to Picard Geordi stayed up all night re fitting the fusion initiators. It was during this trip Picard made up his mind that he wanted this young man on his ship one day.

2362 Geordi was posted to the USS Victory NCC- 9754 under Captain Zimbata, he makes many friends during this time he is part of an away team investigating the disappearance of 49 people on the Tarchannen III colony he unknowingly picks up a virus, five years later this virus shows up in his life, when his friend Susanna Leijten is in touch with Geordi and tells him they must return to Tarchannen III. most of the landing party on that mission have died .

2364 Geordi is transferred to the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, he was requested by captain Picard, he wants him to work as a flight controller on the conn station. Such are Geordi’s skills he is promoted to Lieutenant and is given the new position of Chief engineer, this is where his talents can be put to best use, he is one of the most innovative men on board and it wasn’t long before he was promoted again this time to Lieutenant Commander.

The Enterprise D is destroyed, and Geordi is posted to the new sovereign class USS Enterprise NCC-E

Geordi Chief Engineer

The U.S.S. ENTERPRISE is one of the most advanced ships in Starfleet, but Geordi is more than capable of getting results from older systems. During war games, he and Wesley manage to rig an unconventional warp engine on the U.S.S. Hathaway. When La Forge needs to alter a stellar core fragment's trajectory so that it will not strike an inhabited planet, he is inspired by Visor technology to boost the effective force of the tractor beam by 400 percent. This protects the emitters from the additional stress by using compacted quick pulses to move the fragment.

However, even Geordi can't provide a solution to every problem. When an asteroidal moon with a decaying orbit threatens a planet, La Forge uses the tried, but tricky, technique of sending warp power through the tractor beam emitters. Unfortunately, his efforts produce only a velocity change of about 92 meters per second, when 4 kilometres per second is needed. In a flash of genius, he decides to channel warp power to the tractor emitters, but this time increases emitter coolant (typically, the emitters burn out after being asked to conduct warp power). The omnipotent Q predicts the plan will fracture the asteroid and rip apart the Enterprise. In fact, only Q can, and does, put the asteroid back in stable orbit.

Chief Engineers often find themselves having to perform unorthodox feats of engineering brilliance. He excels in this area, and the Enterprise is always ready to do what the captain asks. However, deep space exploration is unpredictable and the Chief Engineer is often required to provide imaginative solutions to unusual problems. His achievements in dealing with the unknown are what mark him out as an exceptional officer.

Many of La Forge's modifications demonstrate ways to improve the efficiency of the Enterprise's systems, and he gradually incorporates a series of permanent changes, in the next ship designs. The Enterprise is the only ship in the fleet to have that 17 percent boost to warp power now thanks to Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge.

Growing up in Starfleet meant that Geordi lived in many different places and had to adjust to constant changes. His parents were always on the move, some times separately. Geordi learning new languages. Geordi recalls his mother as a brilliant, funny, and very perceptive person. She knows people intuitively, understanding their nature before they even speak. She is fond of trying to set up her son with suitable young women. His mother disappears with all hands. Geordi takes the news very hard and refuses to believe his mother is truly dead. His father plans to attend the service Geordi tries to come to terms with his guilt for missing the opportunity to visit his mother three weeks earlier, when their two ships passed close by one another. Geordi later gets a chance to say goodbye to his mother through a bizarre encounter involving an alien look-a- like of his mother.

Following in his parents footsteps, Geordi began his Starfleet career by entering Starfleet Academy in 2353. Early in his career, he piloted ships on the Jovian run, a Starfleet shuttle route running from Jupiter to Saturn and back each day. One of Geordi's closest friends on the Enterprise is Lt. Commander Data, an android incapable of emotions when he and Geordi first meet. From the very beginning, Geordie's engineering mind is fascinated by Data's complex programming. At the same time, he treats the android like anyone else on the crew, speaking to him as though he were no different from the others. An easy camaraderie springs up between the two.

Aboard the Enterprise, La Forge is preoccupied with the ship's engines, but he does make time to play a weekly round of poker with the senior officers. Another colleague with whom he forms a friendship is Lt. Reginald Barclay, a talented engineer who is painfully shy and socially inept. Initially, La Forge has no patience with Barclay as he is constantly late and never gives his best effort. Unable to work with Barclay, Captain Jean-Luc Picard orders him to befriend the seemingly hopeless Barclay. Undertaking the task with great reluctance, La Forge discovers that not only is Barclay capable of solving difficult engineering problems, but he even has a sense of humour. When Reg spends too much time on the holodeck, La Forge sympathizes. The confession creates a bond between them.

La Forge is also close to Wesley Crusher. The two share a passion for engineering, and the chief engineer takes great delight in ribbing Crusher about girls and dating. Another Starfleet officer with whom he finds he has a lot in common is Captain Montgomery Scott of the original Enterprise. After being suspended in a transporter beam for 75 years, Scotty becomes a guest on La Forge's ship, and when circumstances force them to jury-rig a crashed transport ship, the Jenolen, to save the Enterprise, La Forge learns a few clever tricks from the wily Captain Scott. The two exchange tales about their adventures in space, forming a bond unique to chief engineers. La Forge is, however, inclined toward making friends with holocharacters or people he admires but is unlikely to meet in person. In 2366, while helping the Enterprise escape a trap, La Forge

Perhaps La Forge's most unusual friendship is formed with a Borg named Hugh, saved by the Enterprise in 2368. At first, La Forge sees the Borg as nothing but a drone; he has witnessed the massive destruction caused by the Borg, and so has no qualms about infecting Hugh with a virus to destroy his race. But when he discovers that Hugh is a young, naive boy who is scared and lonely, his attitude changes. Hugh learns the meaning of friendship and individuality; he calls Geordi his friend, and the chief engineer convinces Captain Picard to return the young Borg to his people unaltered. As Geordi La Forge continues in Starfleet, the friends he makes will no doubt last a lifetime. No matter what the future holds for La Forge, his numerous friends will undoubtedly be a mixture of non- humans and humans alike.

GEORDI AND ROMANCE.

Machines that can be taken apart, fixed, and put back together again. Was much easier for him than under standing the workings of he female mind, Geordie's initial attempts to date Enterprise colleague Christi Henshaw typically end in disaster. He tries too hard to impress her with a fancy holodeck program, and this awkward liaison only confirms La Forge's own feelings of ineptitude when it comes to dating. The shy engineer pours out his heart to Guinan the female bartender in the Enterprise's Ten Forward lounge. When Guinan points out that he converses easily with her because he is not trying to impress her, Geordi fails to see the connection. Lt. Worf tells him to let his scent speak of love before his words do-but this is not very useful advice for a non-Klingon.

La Forge worked with Lt. Susanna Leijten on the U.S.S. Victory. Their relationship was similar to that of an older sister and younger brother. Geordi asked her for advice about women, which she handled with good-natured teasing . After many missed opportunities and awkward romances, Geordi La Forge has finally learned how to be himself. This makes him far more attractive to the opposite sex -just as Guinan wisely predicted.
