Amanda Tapping 

Amanda Tapping was born in England, and moved to Toronto, Canada, where she grew up. Tapping was aware early on of the possibilities of a career in the dramatic arts. she always wanted to be an actress. In high school, she won the Dramatic Arts Award and the Environmental Science Award .

Her parents wanted her to go into science. She has three brothers the eldest is a biochemist. Amanda was accepted into the University Dramatic Art in Windsor, Ontario, this was for four years. 

Then a further four years studying theatre and stage productions. Theatre remains Tapping's "first love," Getting the role on Stargate SG-1 was not an overnight thing. It has been eight to 10 years of plugging away and slowly building up her name. In order to have solid grasp on Carter's military side,she talked to people in the know S.E.A.L.S. also to gun experts.
