SG-1 are on a mission to meet an archaeologist named Malakai studying local ruins on P4X-639 -Daniel is overpowered by him, Teal'c and Jack get in the way of a power surge from the gate.
SG-1 are attending a briefing prior to a follow-up mission to when O'Neill and Teal'c say they have already done the briefing and are re living the same 10 hours over and over, no one believes them, and the only way Daniel can stop this loop, is to learn the text on the gate device from the planet, this means Jack has to learn Latin! The gate was constructed by the race responsible for the Stargate system, the "Ancients" they thrived there for thousands of years, until they were struck down by a catechism, facing destruction they built this time machine, it never worked and was abandoned. until Malakai found it.

This is a very funny episode, the humour
reminds me so much of "The Trouble with Tribbles"
