MONTGOMERY SCOTT STARFLEET'S MIRACLE WORKER
Montgomery Scott without doubt one of Starfleet's finest engineers.Scotty serves on a total of eleven ships but makes his name as a Miracle worker when he was serving on board the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 as chief Engineer, he improvises ingenious solutions under intense pressure, many is the time have saved his crew and captain, his knowledge of the ships engines far exceeds what is required for his job.
One of the first engineers to use a controlled implosion to
restore the ships propulsion, before it is pulled into the atmosphere of an
exploding planet, caused when Kevin Riley, under the influence of Psi Virus
turns off the engines. The Chief is very protective of his engines, almost as
though they were precious children. He has put in so much time and effort into
his engines they part of him.
His first thoughts however is always to his ships mission and the lives and safety of his crewmates. He has put his life at risk many times He is just as handy with repairing the transporters, when there is a malfunction with the transporter ionizer Kirk is brought back on board as two beings one good one evil . Also a team on the planet are left dying of extreme cold. With Spock's help Scotty fixes the transporter bypass circuits and ties them directly into the Enterprise impulse engines, a risky repair, but in the end he saves his captain and the crew on the planet from certain death.
He can improvise , and knows the whole lay out of the ships
he serves on like the back of his hands. :) This is illustrated when he has only
a few minutes to rig up a Romulan Cloaking device to the Enterprise. Scotty is
able to link the device to the Enterprise’s deflector shield control in only a
few minutes, this allows a hasty get away for the Starfleet crew from the
Romulan Attackers. Also while Mr Spock is on his First command mission the
Galileo shuttle craft looses all power. Once again showing his unique skills
Scotty adapts the shuttle crafts main reactor to function using a substitute
fuel drained from the crews phasers.
He always made loud protests at the lack of time given to do the repairs on board the Enterprise , but was really at his best when put under pressure to get the job done. 2270 the new Enterprise NCC 1701A needs to be launched ahead of schedule he has 12 hours to do what should take weeks, he gets the job done but not before the untried engines fail and cause a worm hole effect, he manages to re-balence them in 3 hours.
Scotty’s qualities never desert him and as he grows older
and travels to Norpin colony to retire, on board the USS Jenolen, he is forced
to lock himself into the diagnostic transporter cycle to save himself after the
ship crashes . This wonderful piece of engineering saves his life but when he is
rescued 75 years have gone by and on Board he meets Captain Picard on a much new
designed Enterprise 1701D. He finds it very difficult to come to terms with the
technological advances that have passed him by while he was in stasis. However
one final fling when the Enterprise is trapped inside a Dyson's Sphere, Scotty
shows all his skill when he uses the Jenolan to rescue the Enterprise using a
very daring manoeuvre.
The role of a Chief engineer is not as high profile as that of the captain, but is no less vital . Without Montgomery Scott ‘s brilliance and technical genius. The Enterprise Ships would be mere shadows of the legends they became.

SCOTT'S LOVE OF THE ENTERPRISE
Montgomery Scott, chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 has an almost intuitive genius for the mechanical operations of the ship, allowing him to save the day on numerous occasions. Scotty serves on the Enterprise under the command of James T. Kirk, a period which includes the supervision of an extensive refit; and two incarnations of the Enterprise. The role of chief engineer on a starship may not be as high profile as that of the captain, but it is no less vital. Without Montgomery Scott's brilliance and technical genius, the Enterprise would be a shadow of the legend that it was.
He is quickly
angered by slurs against his ship. When a Klingon on Deep Space station K-7
suggests the Enterprise should be hauled away as a garbage scowl, Scott starts
a fight. Kirk restricts him to quarters, this pleases him as it allows him to
catch up on his technical manuals. Kirk is not impressed. Problems with the ship
seem to affect him personally, while nothing pleases him more than when she is
running at peak performance. While chatting to Picard in the future, he claims
that he can tell how fast the ship is travelling by the feel of the deck plates.
2270, Scotty supervises the refit of his beloved old ship. 15 years later he reluctantly transfers to the new U.S.S. Excelsior as Captain of Engineering, but for all its advanced technology the Excelsior is not the ship he loves. He was devastated when the Enterprise 1701 A is to be decommissioned. Scott's knowledge of ship's engines far exceeds what is required for his job. and his reputation as one of the finest engineers in Starfleet is reinforced every time he uses his expertise to save the Enterprise from a perilous situation. The chief engineer is highly protective of, and sometimes passionate about, 'his' engines; he has put so much work into them that they have almost become a part of himself. Scott's talents and his knowledge of the ship's engines, are exceptional enough, but he is equally familiar with ship systems that extend far beyond the area of propulsion. Scotty is familiar with his ship's entire layout.
But at the end of
his legendary career the first, original U.S.S. Enterprise is the only ship he
misses; he even chats to Jean Luc Picard and says working on the Enterprise was
like the first woman you ever loved . You never forget her. Scotty's
qualities desert him as he grows older. After he retires, he travels to the
Norpin Colony aboard the U.S.S. Jenolen NCC-2010, He knew they did not have
enough supplies to wait for a rescue, and is forced to lock himself into a
diagnostic transporters cycle to save himself after the vessel crashes. This
inspired piece of thinking preserves his life, but he is not rescued for another
75 years, ironically by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D Sadly, only Scotty's
pattern has survived intact enough to be retrieved. Young Franklin. died.
Initially,
he finds it difficult to come to terms with the technological advances that have
been made while he has been in stasis, but his skills are soon called upon when
the Enterprise becomes trapped inside a Dyson Sphere. Scotty displays all his
old skill and quick thinking to salvage the Jenolen, and uses it in a daring manoeuvre
to save the Enterprise.
He finds the latest Enterprise a mix of wondrous advancements and baffling changes; At first, he's delighted by it all, asking many questions of Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge almost faster than they can be answered. Everything is new and intriguing and, at least at first, but then the lack of patience of La Forge, Scotty soon comes to feel that he is just in the way. Eventually, La Forge loses his temper with Scotty's interference. Hurt, the former chief engineer points out that he was driving starships while La Forge's great grandfather was still in diapers. Frustrated, Scott leaves Engineering to try and find a strong drink of Scotch but the drink is barely palatable, and certainly like no Scotch he has ever had before; it is, in fact, synthehol. This is explained to him by Data, who baffles Scotty even more first synthetic Scotch, now synthetic commanders. he jokes; Data offers him a real drink, strong and alcoholic, it's just what Scotty needs.
With the bottle in
hand, Scotty finds his way to the holodeck and requests a the original
Enterprise. In here, he can for a time, journey back to the days when he knew
the ship and the crew were his good friends. Scotty, finds it all a humiliating
experience Captain Picard becomes aware of his hurt. and he says he is welcome
to use all the manuals on board. Feeling his age the thought of studying 75
years of technical advancements to catch up doesn't appeal to him. He has no
interest in starting over again, like a cadet. For perhaps the first time in his
life, he feels his age and how tired he is. He tells Picard he doesn't belong on
the Enterprise. The generated image of the original Enterprise may look like his
home of many years, but he knows it is a fantasy and that he is just an old man
trying to hide in it.
Picard has a word with La Forge about how it feels to be unwanted and the engineer starts to understand, Fortunately for Scotty, a crisis gives him the chance to once again prove his worth when the Enterprise is pulled inside the Dyson Sphere by an automated tractor beam. With La Forge's assistance, he salvages the wrecked Jenolen and, using a daring manoeuvre, this saves the The Enterprise D. and the respect he deserves. La Forge understands now.
Scotty realizes that the
Enterprise is for a new generation of Starfleet officers who will have their own
chances to explore the Galaxy; Scotty knows that his future lies elsewhere. He
is offered a shuttle by Captain Picard, who tells him that though it is a little
slow, it will get him to the Norpin Colony. But, revitalized by his time on
board, he isn't interested in retirement anymore. he may end up at the Norpin
Colony some day, but not just yet. As Scotty leaves the Enterprise, he tells La
Forge who is now his friend; that the ship is in good hands. Scotty departs in
the shuttle for adventures unknown.
