Michael Shanks was born on December 15, 1970 and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. Acting was something he always wanted to do. And has been doing it since he was about five years old on a very amateur basis, mostly through school and community theatre. A high school teacher made him pursue it, and he was grateful to her for that. Hard work, determination would do the rest.

When young Michael Shanks went to Vancouver to pursue a business degree. The first celebrity he spotted was Richard Dean Anderson, on location for an episode of MacGyver. He watched Richard work for a while, and he got very excited about the possibilities of becoming a professional actor. Thirteen years later, Shanks stars opposite Richard in Stargate SG-1. needless to say business school is a distant memory. He has not looked back since.
