FROM ENSIGN TO AMBASSADOR
Spock grew up in an unconventional Vulcan family, his mother was human, she was a teacher, and his father Sarek was a Vulcan Ambassador, he also has a half brother called Sybock. Long before Spock was born his father is considered a very eminent person among his fellow Vulcan's.
However Spock`s relationship with his father is far from perfect this causes a
great deal of pain to him. Sarek could bring peace to entire planets but was unable to speak to
his son for 18 years. Spock always felt like an outsider on his own planet of Vulcan.
Because of this at
the age of 19 Spock defies his parents and joins Starfleet Academy. He is the
first Vulcan to join the Academy.
2252 Spock is assigned to the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 under Captain Christopher Pike, he serves as the ships science officer. He becomes so dedicated to Pike that in later years he risks everything to enable Pike have a normal life on Talos (after he is horribly burned) he violates general order 7- the death penalty.
2264 The Enterprise is turned over to Captain James Kirk soon after this Spock is promoted to Commander. His friendship for Kirk is very powerful even to giving his life for him, they are a dynamic pair, and become renowned throughout Starfleet.
Spock is not a natural soldier, his Vulcan logic and
dedication to none violence, make him somewhat vulnerable to attack, he is
highly skilled in Vulcan combat, and stands by Kirks side often. He has faced
many violent situations that require his intellect and super strength. He can
easily adapt to basic weapons such as bow and arrow, spears and swords. Spock
often uses the Vulcan nerve pinch, a compression in the base of the neck. This
renders enemies helpless but unharmed. He has tried to teach this method to Kirk
to no avail. He also has telepathic abilities, and is able to mind meld.
Spock continues his 5 year mission with Kirk but is still torn between Starfleet and his profound Vulcan beliefs, and in 2270 he retires. His plan is to return home and complete the Kolinahr Ritual, this is designed to purge all emotion. He does come very close to attaining this, during the final moments of the ritual he is overwhelmed by feelings within, and as a result he decides to go back to Starfleet during the V`ger crisis, once again serving on the Enterprise.
He stays with Starfleet and becomes an instructor on board
the Enterprise now a training ship for cadets. Then in 2285 in a supreme
sacrifice Spock was prepared to die to ensure the survival of his friends. He
was exposed to massive radiation in the engine room. In events that follow The
Genesis Device explosion and the energies it gives, allow Spock to be reborn.
What lay ahead after his exploration and teaching, was a life time of diplomacy as did his Father Sarek before him. Last heard of on Romulus on a covert operation hoping for the reunification of the Romulan Empire with Vulcan. This will prove to be his most difficult task.
Spock is know for his diplomacy throughout the galaxy, many lives have been changed forever simply by knowing this remarkable man called "Spock"
![]()
During his long, successful career Spock distinguishes
himself in many capacities, but he is without a doubt best known as one of
Starfleet's greatest first officers, He is the first Vulcan in Starfleet. The most fascinating aspect of Spock's career is his unique
personal relationship with Captain James T. Kirk. At first glance, it would seem
doomed to failure; a headstrong captain, who relies on emotions and intuition in
dealing with crises, and a noble logical Vulcan. Yet it is exactly this
difference that gives their relationship its power.
Spock will often question Kirk's judgment, but it is usually done with the respect of Kirk. Some humans exhibit prejudicial feelings toward the strictly logical behaviour of Vulcans, and this causes difficulties for Spock, especially in matters of command. With a ship full of emotional beings Spock has much to learn about the behaviour and motivations before being able to effectively command them. Spock's decision making are strictly logical in nature. To humans, this way of reasoning can easily be misinterpreted, as cold and unfeeling. It makes it difficult for Spock in gaining the respect and confidence of the crew. He makes judgments quickly and decisively.
Spock leads a
shuttle craft crew into the quasar-like Murasaki 312. The Shuttlecraft Galileo 7
crash lands on Taurus II, an unexplored
planet. During his group's struggle to survive, Spock learns a great deal about
commanding humans. His cold, analytical method of problem solving leads to
friction between himself and the other members of the team; all of Spock's
decisions are logical and rational, but some of the party misread this logic as a
callous disregard for human life. Spock's leadership style includes no positive
emotion or inspiration for the officers; under his command. Spock’s people
skills are sorely lacking, this command does help him to understand human
behaviour under stress.
His commands are often challenged, and his reasoning is sometimes questioned; because he seems not to possess emotional empathy with the crew, he certainly has to work hard to earn the trust of his colleagues. Kirk expresses the belief that Spock possesses "intuitive insight", and he suggests that Spock seek out the advice of Dr. McCoy in order to see more clearly the emotional side of difficult situations.
Spock begins to regard recommendations based on emotion as an
important component of command decision making. This does not, however, prevent
friction from occasionally flaring up. Spock gradually becomes more at ease with
command, and the crew likewise learn to trust his decisions. Spock sounds out
differing opinions from his senior staff, but is not afraid to make the final
decision alone. As first officer, Spock does not appear to be pursuing a
captaincy of his own. He remains secretive about his intentions as far as
command is concerned, he seems content to remain at Kirk's side and perform his
duties as first officer to the best of his ability.
Another primary duty for a first officer is to protect the captain from harm.
For example, the first officer should lead dangerous away missions, while the
captain remains aboard ship in relative safety. However, in Spock's case, this
is easier said than done. Kirk has a tendency to insist on placing himself in
harm's way on a regular basis. Spock dutifully attempts on many occasions to
take the risk upon himself, but usually to little avail. Kirk's insists on
venturing into dangerous situations. Spock often finds himself helping the
captain out of danger rather than keeping him from it in the first place.
As Science Officer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, Mr. Spock's duties range from advising the captain on planetary conditions to analysing incoming sensor data. Spock's has personal knowledge of cultures, technology, and natural phenomena he is extremely knowledgeable, and as such he is an invaluable resource to Captain James T. Kirk. By the year 2267, Spock has earned the Vulcan Scientific Legion of Honour and has been decorated twice by Starfleet Command.
Spock’s great knowledge of the universe, and his ability to analyse data, often
give Kirk enough information to save the ship and crew for whom he is
responsible. Spock's extensive knowledge of other creatures and life forms is an
enormous help when trying to communicate with such beings. His curiosity; over
a being called "The Companion" lead him to performing a successful
mind meld
with the non-corporeal life form.
Separated from his familiar 23rd-century technology during a trip into the 1930s
era of Earth's past, Spock is able to improvise by using the available tools of
the day. That he understands the principles of the technology he works with so
intimately is the sign of a great scientist.
Spock's actions frequently demonstrate not only his familiarity with science and technology, but also his loyalty to the people he works with. Captain Kirk faces a court martial for negligence resulting in the death of a crewman under his command. Computer records show that Kirk is guilty, but Spock is convinced of his innocence. By playing 3D chess with the Enterprise's computer, Spock determines that the computer has been tampered with. This leads to the discovery that the man Kirk is accused of killing is still alive, and that he has falsified the computer records to take revenge on Kirk.
While under the influence of the dangerous Psi 2000 virus, Lt. Kevin Riley
turns off the ship's engines. Without her engines the orbit of the ship begins to decay, and
the Enterprise seems certain to crash unless they can be restarted. Spock joins
his theoretical knowledge of matter and antimatter with Chief Engineer Scott's
familiarity with ship's engines; to create a new intermix formula. This allows
them to restart the engines in less than half an hour, and in the end saving the
ship.
Spock eventually rises to captain the Enterprise, however when he commands the ship it is used for training cadets at Starfleet Academy rather than on deep space missions, as a Starfleet training vessel, Spock puts many groups of cadets through a rigorous curriculum. When the Enterprise and its inexperienced crew are called upon to respond to an emergency, he immediately steps aside and lets the now; Admiral Kirk take command, knowing that he is the best man for the job. When Kirk is demoted to captain and is given command of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A, Spock takes his place as Kirk's first officer; even though he has equal rank to the man sitting in the captain's chair. Also Kirk knows that with Spock's knowledge, his own position as commander of a starship is much stronger.
Spock views his promotion to captain during the 2270's as an opportunity for
him to define his goals as a commanding officer. Rather than pursue glorious
adventures throughout the Galaxy, he chooses to direct his energies and talents
to the place where he first distinguished himself as an individual; Starfleet
Academy. As the first Vulcan to graduate from the Academy, Spock's unique
experience serving in Starfleet is invaluable. It allows him to prepare new
Vulcan cadets for the challenges that he knows lie ahead for them. As captain of
the U.S.S. Enterprise, now recommissioned
Spock also appears to embrace the concept of diplomacy, as he later dedicates himself to a career as a highly respected Federation Ambassador.

Ambassador Spock of Vulcan has had a long and distinguished career. Since the former first officer, science officer, and captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 abandoned Starship command to become an ambassador, his achievements on behalf of the Federation, as well as his visionary belief that peace is possible among even the most deadly enemies.
Spock has a tendency to undertake 'personal' missions in secret, advising the Federation of his whereabouts and actions only when he feels it is appropriate. Jean-Luc Picard describe his unorthodox methods. "cowboy diplomacy".
Spock's first triumph in a
diplomatic role occurs in 2293, when he plays a crucial part in the Federation's
peace process with the Klingon Empire. Later, Spock publicly challenges the
position of his father, Sarek, another great representative of the Vulcan
people, on the Cardassian War. Spock's relationship with Sarek has always been
strained, both on a political and a personal level. While Sarek feels that Spock
is too impressionable - a major weakness in an ambassador as well as a Vulcan -
Spock sees beyond the limits of pure logic; he is optimistic about peace where
as Sarek is more cautious.
Spock's makes an unauthorized visit to Romulus. At first, Starfleet suspects that he has defected, and dispatches Captain Picard and the Enterprise 1701-D to investigate. It seems that Spock has been privately asked to come to Romulus by Pardek, a Romulan Senator with whom Spock has cultivated a relationship, he met him at the Khitomer conference. Pardek is considered a man of the people; he has advocated peace throughout his career. He invites Spock because of a growing underground movement among Romulans who seek to learn banned Vulcan philosophies. Pardek believes that Spock can help initiate the first steps toward reunification between the Vulcans and the Romulans.
Spock makes a grave error in trusting Pardek. With
the help of Captain Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data, Ambassador Spock's
brand of "cowboy diplomacy" foils a Romulan plot to invade Vulcan in
ships claiming to be a peace convoy leaving the possibility of an official move
toward reunification between the Vulcans and the Romulans damaged. Spock decides
to stay on Romulus. He realizes that the union of the Romulan and Vulcan
people will not be achieved by politics, though officially tarnished by this
personal direction he has taken, he has no regrets about his career of service
and the Federation. Spock's has hope and optimism for a peaceful future.

SPOCK, HIS ROMANCES -- LEISURE --MIND MELD--LOYALTY.
Romance
Vulcans are betrothed as children, in a ceremony , minds
are locked together so at the proper time, they will be drawn back to each other
, at the age of 7 Spock is telepathically linked to a young girl named T'Pring,
She is in fact his wife, in name only, many years later biological necessity of
the Pon farr, Spock returns to T'Pring and Vulcan, during Pon farr his logic is
gone, and it brings on a temporary madness. On Vulcan, Spock greets T'Pring and
her wedding party at his family's ancient grounds, for a ceremony of marriage or
challenge, She has decided she loves another man called Stonn, and chooses
to challenge the wedding. After this challenge by battle, Spock gives up T'Pring
freely, and without regret.
Vulcans are moved by beauty and intellect but keep all
emotion under control, his reserve is broken however , when he has to go to
Omicron Ceti III. here he is re acquainted with Leila Kalomi she has always
loved Spock. He is infected by symbiotic spores on the planet shattering his
control. He can finally tell Leila he loves her. He watches the clouds go by
with Leila, forgetting all logic and his duties Kirk finds a way to counter the
effects of the spores by picking a fight with Spock, strong emotion is the
secret to getting him back. He admits to Jim and McCoy he had been
"happy" for the first time in his life.
Spock is capable of admiring beauty. He meets Droxine, a resident of the cloud city, Stratos. Spock calls her "a work of art." He finds her pure and sweet of mind, she is attracted to Spock's intellect, but their relationship does not progress beyond a mutual admiration.
Spock travels 5000 years into the past of the planet
Sarpeidon. As a result, his emotions return to an early stage of Vulcan
development, when his race was barbaric and warlike. Trapped in the planet's ice
age, he falls in love with an exile, Zarabeth. She explains to him that he can
never return to his time. He is deeply in love with Zarabeth, but soon becomes
jealous when the doctor appears to be attracted to her, they fight and with his
hands around the throat of the doctor, he realises he is completely out of
control. Dr. McCoy helps him. They find a way to return to the present. Spock
regrets that Zarabeth has been dead for thousands of years.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard remarks, in 2366, that he attended the wedding of Sarek's son many years before, but it is unknown if this is a reference to Spock. As he ages, Spock's private life is kept to himself and close friends, and later romances remain a mystery in the life of this legendary officer and respected ambassador.
*****
Leisure
Spock spends his off duty hours on board the Enterprise improving himself through study, rigorous mental training, and musical self-expression, in accordance with Vulcan philosophy. He spends hours studying on his computer , constantly updating his considerable knowledge of science and computing. He can absorb 8 to 10 hours of library tapes in a tenth of the time it would take a human .
Solitude is not a
problem for Spock. He is well accustomed to being the sole Vulcan among humans,
and the sole half-human among Vulcans. Time spent alone is often a relief after
hours of steeling himself against emotional, illogical humans, not to mention
the Enterprise's chilly environment. Once he is in his quarters, he can relax
raise the room temperature to a more comfortable level. This setting makes it
easier for Spock to focus on his meditation. Vulcans can go without sleep for
weeks, but meditation is a must. Spock uses it to put in order the day's events,
and simply to rest.
Spock is also knows art . When visiting Mr. Flint's planet, Spock recognizes paintings of such the masters as even though the paintings are unknown and not catalogued. Spock does not spend all his time locked away in his quarters. He keeps himself physically fit, practices self defence skills. He also enjoys the challenge of 3D chess. Since Spock's chess skills are way ahead to those of his shipmates, he programs the computer with a knowledge of the game, so that he will always have a challenging partner.
Spock can also play
the piano and read music. When visiting Flint, he flawlessly performs a Johannes
Brahms waltz he has never seen before, though he knows the waltz is Brahms's
work Spock keeps a Vulcan lyre in his quarters, and he occasionally plays for
the crew. Many years later, evidence of Spock's expanded philosophy is when he
accompanies Kirk and McCoy on a camping trip, once he would have considered this
illogical. In the company of his old friends. Spock relaxes, toasting and eating
marshmallows, playing 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' on his lute and attempting to
learn the song's "illogical" lyrics.

Mind meld
Vulcan’s can
communicate through the tactile telepathy of a mind-meld. During Spock's long
and distinguished career on the Enterprise ships he has opportunities to meld
with several different creatures and life forms, some of them very different to
the Vulcan and human race. The mind-meld is usually performed between Vulcans as
an intimate act of friendship. One such time is when he removes thoughts
from Kirks mind of a devastating love affair. He did this while Kirk
slept. It can also be used to extract information
without the other person's permission. Perhaps one of Spock's most unusual
mind-melds is shared with a hump-back whale in a 20th-century aquarium the whale
communicates it is pregnant. Also the silicon based Horta on Janus IV
informs Spock that she is just protecting her eggs.
Spock mind-melds
with Dr. McCoy to place his katra in the doctor's mind before he himself dies,
enabling it to later be recombined with his rejuvenated body. However, the most
important historical effect comes , when he forces information on the plot to
disrupt the Federation Klingon peace conference at Khitomer from the mind of the
Vulcan traitor Valeris, he is visibly angered by this.
Spock mind-melds
with Captain Jean Luc Picard, allowing him to touch the mind of his
recently-deceased father, Sarek, who melded with Picard but never with his son.
Spock is given a
chance to close the distance between himself and his father that proved so
insurmountable in life. At last he understands; and he is overwhelmed with
his fathers depth of feeling.
****
Loyalty
Spock's loyalty is
legendary throughout his Starfleet career e repeatedly risks his commission, and
even his life to defend his friends. When Spock's former commander, Captain
Christopher Pike, is confined to a physically limited existence, the Vulcan
officer believes that his only hope for a full life, is a return to the
forbidden planet Talos IV. Starfleet General Order 7 prohibits contact with the
planet, under penalty of death. At the time, Spock has no idea that Starfleet
will ultimately make an exception and permit his unauthorized mission he acts to
help Pike regardless of any personal consequences.
Spock risks the Enterprise in order to rescue Kirk from Tholian space. Despite the threat posed by Tholian ships, and an energy web that could annihilate the Enterprise, Spock steadfastly maintains that position, even though rescuing the captain might mean losing the entire crew. On several occasions, Spock has shielded Kirk from injury or death by putting himself between the captain and the threat. If the ultimate measure of loyalty is whether you would sacrifice your own life for another, then Spock has proven this many times over.
Spock is also prepared to risk his
life for the entire Federation. When a massive space amoeba threatens to
consume the Alpha Quadrant. Despite the high risk, Spock volunteers to take a
shuttle craft into the amoeba's nucleus in order to plant an antimatter bomb
that will destroy it. Starfleet depends on a certain bond of trust between its
officers, but Spock's devotion goes well beyond that. Captains Pike and Kirk
both acknowledge the fact that they are extremely fortunate to have earned the
loyalty of this Vulcan named Spock.

Leonard Nimoy as SPOCK
Personal observation of Star Trek!
Leonard Nimoy made this TV Show the success it is. Making Aliens from Space believable.
Leonard was
so involved with getting this role of Spock correct it in fact effected his health. Thank You
Leonard. You were right to insist on the way your character
developed. 36 years later
is proof of this. Good luck my friend. Regards Daisy Young :)
